Education How to improve outcomes at less cost

Education of the youth is one of our great responsibilities. I, personally, am grateful for the work and sacrifice of the great teachers that have touched my life and for the work they do with the youth of Idaho today. Quality education consists of three major components: teaching/funding, parental support, and student interest.
In the past, most of our attention has been focuses on increasing funding. While funding is important, this has lead to placing more responsibility and accountability on teachers and administrators.
My efforts have focused on ways to increase parental support and student interest. This will improve outcomes while reducing teacher stress.
The"8 in 6” is a bill that I worked on this year that allows students to take summer courses and overload courses (courses outside of the school day). The purpose is to allow students to take extra classes beginning as early as the 7th grade so that they can reach concurrent enrollment by their junior year of high school. This will allow more students to graduate with high school with one or two years of college. Allowing families to reduce the cost of a college education by up to $20,000 while also reducing the cost of education to the state of Idaho.
This is a good example of the win-win problem solving approach that I bring to important issues. For more information contact me at ssthayn@aol.com I would be happy to visit with PTO groups, civic groups, or families about this option and how you can use it.
