My Views on the Ultrasound Bill

There is some interest in the ultrasound bill, Senate 1387, and my view of the issue. While I am pro-life, I thought this bill was an overreach of government power and could not support it. The bill, however, did try to address a serious problem.

Current state law requires an abortion provider that performs an ultrasound to offer to show the ultrasound to the woman. The problem is many young women, that have an unwanted pregnancy, are not looking at the ultrasound. They are told that the baby is just a clump of tissues. Later, they find out that they were really carrying a baby. This has lead to regrets and sorrow.

Let me share with you a portion of a story provided by a grief councilor in Twin Falls concerning a woman 7 weeks pregnant."They (Planned Parenthood) gave her the pills (RU486) and told her she could go home and have the medical abortion ‘in the comfort of her own home.’ As she was getting ready to leave she asked the nurse how big her baby would be, and the nurse again repeated what the doctor has said, that it was NOT a baby it’s just a clump of tissue. Later she told me she wished she would have looked at the ultrasound because then she would have known, in her word,"that they had lied to her about it being a clump of tissue.” When the young lady called the hotline she was screaming and crying. She kept repeating, it’s a baby!”

To any young woman that is considering an abortion, please look at the ultrasound so that you that you make an informed choice.
